Key Deer

While visiting Key West last week I went to the National Key Deer Refuge on Big Pines Key. The highlight was seeing the rare Key Deer beside the road (Yeah!!). These endangered animals are only found on Big Pines Key. Park Rangers estimate that 1000 – 1200 Key Deer currently live in the refuge. The herd is healthy and growing but they’re threatened by disease and motor vehicles.
